S1 path
This path, called S1, is 34,5 km long. It starts from Bra and ends in Cisterna d’Alba, touching ten different towns along the erosive formation of the Roero cliffs. Among the several highlights of the region, nature and landscape are of course the most relevant. The birth of its hills had important effects on the morphology or Roero region. The Roero cliffs owe their origin to a big action of erosion that led to the capture of the river Tanaro. Flora and fauna living in the habitat originated by the new hydrographic system are quite peculiar because of the coexistence of different species from both Mediterranean and Alpine environment.
After leaving Bra, passing through the woods of San Michele and the town of Pocapaglia, we arrive in Sommariva Perno, famous for its castle. Next stops are Baldissero d’Alba, Montaldo Roero with its medieval tower, Monteu Roero and Montà d’Alba, that hosts the seat of the Ecomuseum of the Rocche del Roero. Then, after leaving Montà, we can start the “honey path” to reach the town of Canale and finally Cisterna d’Asti.
